The Virginia Department of Aviation (DOAV), in cooperation with the Aircraft Owners and Pilot Association (AOPA), Academy of Model Aeronautics (AMA) and the Association for Unmanned Vehicle Systems International (AUVSI), will be hosting a series of Safety Seminars around Virginia from September 25th to 28th as part of the DOAV’s regular semi-annual Aviation Safety Week Program. The top for the Fall 2017 Safety Week is “General Aviation and UAS Integration Around Airports”.
Approximately 79 percent of the Commonwealth’s population lives within 30 minutes of one of the 66 public use general aviation/commercial service airports. The FAA estimates over 6 million UAS by the year 2021, compared to 211,086 US manned aircraft today. Virginia ranks 7th in the nation for commercial operators with over 1,553 certified Remote Pilots.
