HARRISONBURG, Va. (WHSV)– Some Virginia college students are taking learning to new heights, as well as taking on global issues.
This semester, students from James Madison University, Old Dominion University and George Mason University have been working in a cross-disciplinary course, using drones to tackle global issues ranging from a historic wall in Colombia to search and rescue missions to the declining honey bee population.
Professors say they hope to show different ways to use drones.
“To come up with all of these innovative uses for drones and that’s what’s really exciting about it. It’s an emerging technology and we really don’t know the potential of that technology and the students are coming up with new ways of using it, ways that have not really been thought of before,” explained Dr. Sean McCarthy, one of the assistant professors teaching the course.
